CertainTeed is confident our products are safe to manufacture, install and use in homes and office buildings.
First, our fiber glass plants operate under very tough health and safety procedures. We also operate under very strict EPA restrictions for stack emissions. Our plants have closed-loop systems to re-use water that virtually eliminates discharges.
Our concern over the health and safety of the people who install our products lead us, through our trade association (NAIMA), to develop a voluntary Health and Safety Partnership Program with OSHA. This program is a first for OSHA.

The question on fiber glass and health was put to bed in October, 2001, when the International Agency for Research on Cancer reclassified glass fibers to a Group 3, “not classifiable as to carcinogenicity to humans”.
Finally, the issue of fiber glass insulation and formaldehyde has been raised recently. The amount of free formaldehyde in our fiber glass insulation is far below the maximum allowable levels. It is just not an issue with insulation. For more on this subject click on the additional resources.
